Hello Parents and friends;

Haloween is on a Thursday this year and as a result, many students will be wanting to dress up.

If you plan on sending your student in costume here are some guidelines that will make our school day run smoothly:
  • Have them wear their costumes to school it would be very difficult for us to try to dress 10 students up
  • Please do not send them in costumes that restrict their ability to use the toilet, it gets very sad if they have an accident because they could not get out of their costume fast enough.
  • Be sure to send a change of clothing in case they are uncomfortable in their costumes.
  • Please do not send any swords, knives guns or other like items.
  • We also ask that they not wear masks, they usually are not comfortable and really distract them from working.

Please do not send in candy for the class it is very difficult to settle down after getting loads of candy and many parents like to put limits on the amount of sugar eaten in a day.

I hope that everyone has a safe and happy Halloween

Please note; SVS has adopted a Pack in - Pack out policy this means that your students will be bringing home all recyclable or compostable materials. We hope to do our part in saving the planet by allowing you the opportunity to recycle and compost the items that are brought in their lunch kits.

Ryan Willert has been working at our school painting a mural in our Gathering Space.  The following link is a quick video of his artistic process. https://youtu.be/MF9vXDn_MDk
We are only halfway done and we are really looking forward to unveiling the whole mural at the end of November.
Ryan has also been teaching students about the 4 teachings of the buffalo;
  1. Take Responsibility
  2. Say Sorry
  3. Forgive yourself
  4. Forgive others

Thank-you

Thank you for your continued support

What's New at School!

Pumpkinella!

Get your family together and join in the fun for SVS's Pumpkinella! Design, carve or dress up a pumpkin to bring for display. ONLY ONE PER FAMILY!

Bring your pumpkin to the DLC after school on Wednesday, October 30th or the morning of Thursday, October31stfrom 8:20-8:40am.

the pumpkin may have a safer journey if they are not brought to school on the bus. If you could add a tea-light to the center of your pumpkin, it will add to a special effect when placed in the gym.

Classes will tour the gym throughout the day to enjoy your efforts. Pumpkins MUST be picked up to go home by Thursday, between 4:00 and 5:oopm. Any pumpkins left at the school will be composted.

Don't forget the Halloween Hop on the 25th of October Flyers went home last week.

Here in SKILL

Individual Program plans were sent home on Wednesday, October 16th, 2019
Please read over them and return the signature page as soon as you can.

Feel free to call or email me if you have questions or concerns.

Our students are working hard at language and math.

Math:
Counting up practice occurs daily and we trace numbers every second day.

Language arts:
The students enjoy various picture stories that focus on social development one example is "Hands are not for Hitting". Picture stories have a visual for almost every word and help to develop reading skills. We are working on a new set of sight words for October and November.

Our new words are: break, day, food, hold, if, most, near, party, shop, picture, jump, then, medium, keep, this, will, did, him, too, quick, story.

Thank you for all your support,
